If you visit in early January, you must immerse yourself in the Carnaval de Negros y Blancos. You  absolutely must  visit the breathtaking  Laguna de la Cocha , the second largest natural lake in Colombia. Here, you can  peacefully  take a boat ride to  Isla de la Corota , a small island sanctuary with unique flora and fauna. The view of the lake surrounded by green hills is simply magical. You  should definitely  try the fresh trout, a local specialty, at one of the traditional restaurants on the waterfront. To deeply understand the local culture, you must explore the Carnaval de Negros y Blancos Museum. This museum wonderfully showcases the history and artistry behind Pasto's world-famous carnival, declared a UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage. You can carefully admire the elaborate floats ( carrozas ) and costumes that transform the city into a giant party every January.
